Greetings to all.
I decided to write a short comment regarding a gentleman named Mr. Orchard. This was a man who worked tirelessly corresponding with Australian Government officials including the then minister of immigration Harold Holt who was shortly to become the Prime Minister of Australia. Minister Holt had the decency to write back in person to several of Mr. Orchards letters where the latter pleading for assistance. This was during the threat and occupation in Harbin Manchuria by the Japanese.
Writing regularly in the hope of having White Russians be granted permission to enter Australia as living residents. I know only of Mr., Orchard from looking through over three hundred pages attached to the immigration records of just one sole individual. I am certain documents written by him to numerous authorities would exist under many other hopeful immigrant files, but he will never be known or remembered for his efforts. Hence this is my small tribute to him. Additionally, there are several surnames included in listen that many subscribers will be familiar with and some information on their occupations inn Harbin and so forth. I wish everyone a peaceful and serene Easter.
