Máramaros in not a village or town but was a county with hundreds of villages and towns. After the Treaty of Trianon it was taken from Hungary and the Northern part went to Czechoslovakia, the Southern to Romania. After WW2 the former Czechoslovak and for a short time (1939-1945) again Hungarian part was taken by Stalin and attached to the Ukrainian SSR.

The young lady can contact me, I used to do researches in that area, both in Ukraine and in Romania. Although my Russian is poor as I forgot many in the last 25 years when I didn't used the language at all, but with help of Goolge Translate it worked with others. If she speaks English or German, the communication can be easier.
