Occurred in the city of Włodawa on the 15th day/January 27th, 1846, at four p.m. Joseph (Iosif)-Aron Schifer showed, the vice-Rabbi of the Włodawa parish, together with Meyer Samelson, a cavalier [of an order?], of 18 years of age, residing in Włodawa and born in the given city to Aron and Rifka Samelson, a married couple, no longer alive and Pesla Sruslevna Friedlender, a maiden of 20 years of age, the daughter of Srul Peysahovich and Rifka Friedlender, a married couple, residing in Włodawa, engaged in trade, from whom the mother is no longer alive, while [the daughter] currently lives with her father. In presence of N(uhman?) Samelson, the brother of Meyer Samelson, and Srul Friedlender, the father of Pesla Friedlender, the newly-weds, as well as in presence of the witnesses, Iosel (Josel) Giter, of 67 years of age, and Smul Schrayer, of 59 years of age, both are school teachers** also residing here, declared that in their presence today there was conducted religious marriage between Meyer Samelson, a cavalier, and Pesla Friedlender, a maiden, and that it was preceded by three announcements on the 3rd, 10th and 17th of January, this year, made at the local Jewish school and that the marriage was carried out under the oral permission of the present N(uhman?) Samelson, the brother of Meyer Samelson, and Srul Friedlender, the father of Pesla Friedlender, the bridal couple, and that the marriage was not prevented and that the bride and the groom are not related, while the bridal couple had also announced that they did not conclude any pre-nuptial contract. The given act has been read to the attendants and the witnesses and signed by them. ** szkolnik (Polish, obsolete) - teacher https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/szkolnik | | Лайк (1) |

25 марта 2024 17:36 I would also like, if possible, to obtain the complete translation of what is boxed in red for this marriage certificate which concerns Chaim Gulnik and Beila Kostelansky

Hi. The translation is correct. The Kotelyanski surname refers to all of the grandchildren. It's in plural. The occupation of Tsyna: it says literally "sewing at [her/their] grandfather's''. This can mean she could be a seamstress, but did it at her grandfather's house. The word "шитье" literally translates as ''sewing'', so it doesn't specify what kind. But likely it's clothing. "не имеют", "не состояли" .

I can't read some parts though. № 25 Лета: мужскаго: 25, женскаго: 25 Кто совершал обряд: (? ? ? Раввина?) Число/месяц Декабря 9 На сумму 75 рублей. Свидетели: Хаим (?) и Пейсах Гейлигберг Брестский мещанин Хаим-Йосель Янкелович Гульник, холостой, с девицею Бейлею-Ехиель Боруховною Котулянских из г. Островец Волынской губернии Translation: # 25 Age: male: 25, female: 25 Who coducted the ceremony: (??? Rabbi?) Date/month December 9th Primary acts and deeds between the bride and the groom and the witnesses of such Amounted to the sum of 75 rubles. The witnesses: Haim (?) and Peisah Geyligberg The bride and the groom: Brest burgher Haim-Josel Jankelovich Gulnik, bachelor*, and the maiden Beylya-Ehiel Boruhovna Kotulyanski from the town of Ostrowiec, Volynya governorate**. ............ * "холост" here means that the groom had never been marriaged before, first marrying ** here it says ''Volynskaya guberniya'', but it's in Ukraine. It can be a mistake. Probably it should be the Ostrowiec from the former Radom governorate, which is now Poland. https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/...9tokrzyski

Thanks for that. I also think clothing was the most common. And who does mean "не имеют" and "не состояли" ? Google translation doesn't really help for that because there is no context. And for the word next to cattle dealer ? It is "мосье" for Sir ?

27 марта 2024 21:12 I had requested this marriage certificate because I thought that Beila Kastelansky was in fact Tsipa in the census. I thought for two reasons: 1) There would have been 2 Tsipa in the family which is not common. 2) In the family letters that I translated, there is mention of a certain Bella. In my opinion, she is a Kastelansky so I immediately matched between the two. But Bella Kastelansky comes from Ostrowiec so it's not good at all. Although the age was almost correct as well as the father's name: Boruch So back to beginning
