"Dear Natalia,
SMGF cannot return results to participants or notify them when their samples are complete, as is stated in our consent forms and also on our website: www.smgf.org. We are a non profit research foundation as a result we are not able to return genetic information to participants. The purpose of our project is to gather the data, integrate the genetic and genealogical information, and build the databases.
In order to get results, you will need to contact a commercial testing company such as Gene Tree, DNA Heritage, Oxford Ancestors, Ancestry.com, or Family Tree DNA. Once you have your results from your chosen private DNA testing company, you can go to the search page for the databases on our website and enter the results into the blanks provided. The site will then match your results with the genetic profiles in the database. Anyone who is biologically related to you will show up as a match on the database, and the more markers you have in common with someone, the closer the relationship is. We appreciate your continued support of the SMGF project.
