8 января 2024 23:45 Wow so many informations here ! So Efim and Mikhail's father is Vasily Yakovlevitch Nechaev, a priest from Murikovo ? what a pious family. I now understand that the Russian army took the youngest Nechaev, otherwise Grigory would have been a priest too.
Thanks again for all the time you give

If Efim and Michail ARE brothers. Vasily Yakovlevich was originally served of the village of Velmezh, Gzhatsky uyezd, near Smolensk. Circa 1788 he was commissioned to Murikovo, Volokolamsk uyezd, near Moscow. It doesn't mention if he was a deacon there too. He could have had a lesser rank, but from what I can assume he was a clergyman there too. He probably also went to a seminary, and theoretically thus was elevated to deacon. But this is my guess. Deacon (диакон) is not priest (священник/поп), it's a rank one degree lower, but was the first stage of church parish ministership. In Russia deacons underwent ordination, while dyachki and acolytes (ponomari) were not, so the two latter were considered litterally laity, yet serving at the church (tserkovnosluzhiteli). Deacon, priest, prosbuter and protoiereus were considred "svyaschennosluzhiteli" (roughly, ministers, full church parish clergy).

As for further research, theoretically we should have studied the clergy census the 4th census (1787) of Velmezh, Gzhatsky uyezd, to see from where he was commissioned. It belonged to Smolensk governorate, but Pereyslavl eparchy. I've reviewed Smolensk archive's indexes for Smolenskaya kazennaya palata and Smolenskaya dukhovnaya konsistoriya. There's no 4th census for that village, let alone for the clergy (they went seperately). The Smolensk consistory doesn't have any documents for the period from that village. I don't know if there's anything at NIAB (Belarus), but fonds 136, Minsk consistory, doesn't seem to have anything. I don't know if there's anything on the Pereyaslavl eparchy in other archives. So, I don't know what can be suggested for further research. Theoretically the Nechaevs should be from Moscow. What area of Moscow? Were they burghers or clergy? It's RGADA. There are some censuses from Moscow areas in the fonds # 350. Normally, RGADA has censuses: the 1st (1719-27), 2nd (1744-48) and 3rd (1760-s). Maybe there are some more church fonds at the Moscow city archive (ЦГА Москвы), that are not digitized, with documents of the 18th century. I'm not an expert in that area.

9 января 2024 0:57 It's true that for the moment, we don't have an archive where we see Efim and Mikhail together. They were assumed to be brothers because Efim had been indicated as a priest for Mikhail Nechaev's children, such as Anna, Vasily and Anastasia. That's still 3 children out of the 7 and the others we don't have their birth certificates
The only thing I know is that on Konstantin's side, they were considered burghers. It seems to me that his daughter Elisabeta married a nobleman or bourgeois Pavel Pavlovich Domogatsky.

No, he was their godfather, not the priest performing the baptism. And it's not Efim's church. So, 90% their must be brothers, since the same last name. In case of the shortage of direct indications, all these godparents and witnesses on weddings are of great help. They do work, because very often these people were either blood relatives or in-laws. The godparents must be the closest circle.

9 января 2024 18:44 Yep exactly, This is the reason that we started with this relationship between them. It's interesting to see theses two brothers take two different way. One in religion and the other in typography. Anyway, as I said last time, Efim and Mikhail probably have other brothers and sisters seeing they age gap but given that I haven't found any other X Vasilievitch Nechaev which can corresponds with this family, ce can imagine that they didn't come to Moscou and stay aroung Murikovo or Velmezh maybe
