Adoption at birth Russia to America 40 years ago.

 Probable bio mother's name Maria Romanova. No documents on hands. Where to start looking? DNA shows only 4-5 level of cousins. The girl grew up and NEEDS HELP to find her roots!

Am I right?
We are looking for Maria Romanova who gave birth to a girl Alesya/Alicia on 9/11/78 in Leningrad. Maria Romanova may have had another daughter (older? twin?).
Alesya/Alicia was immediately adopted by Alfred and Lyudmila Karpovich, Lyudmila from Belarus, Alfred from Leningrad, and they got the birth certificate for Rosa Karpovich, born 12/11/78 in Leningrad.
So far right?
Then the first step would be to search for newborn girls up to 12/11/78 in Leningrad.
If we find Alesya/Alicia born to Maria Romanova, then we have solved the riddle, if not then it was not Leningrad and we are where we were before.

I posted your question in the thread on St. petersburg https://forum.vgd.ru/3542/3086/#last , but there are still questions:

1. place of birth was given as Leningrad, but where was the certificate issued?

2. Alfred and Lyudmila Karpovich brought Rosa up, they went with her to America and still are living there, it's them giving all the informations? Surely it also can be that they are alive but not willing to give informations or Rosa not willing to ask etc. In fact, we only need this to understand how reliable the data are. Sure, even if they are alive and source of the information, it is not necesserily reliable... sad.gif

The answer came very quickly, but a sad one:
1978 is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation sad.gif
So maybe there is no way cray.gif

Yes, all correct.

They destroyed all the documents and when Rosa grew up they gave all the information to her on words, and she is not sure they told her the correct data.

Rosa is reading this thread.

Thank you for trying.

43 years ago adoption and still a state secret? They were not the foreigners, they were USSR citizens, they moved to America in 1980 or so.

Well, let's wait, maybe other colleagues have other ideas.

As for the PD, it's not a state secret, it's now up to people to sue VGD because their names were mentioned here.

Hi!
I assume that the new birth certificate was issued based on legal papers (I am quite sure that a part of them was translated from Russian) . As you wrote some of the papers were destroyed but there is always a chance that copies were made and placed in the US archives. I would make some requests in this direction. If you are lucky that could give you some info or at least some keys for your next step. Good luck!
