General Questions

What is a FamilySearch Account or LDS Account?

FamilySearch Account or LDS Account is the sign in credentials (user name and password) that most LDS Church Web sites require you to have to access their site. The LDS Church is in the process of transitioning most of its sites and applications to FamilySearch Account and LDS Account in order to reduce the number of user names and passwords you are required to have.


Do I have to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to use FamilySearch Account or LDS Account?

No you do not. While members of the Church will have access to additional resources specific to their membership, anyone is free to register for an account to use our public resources.

Did you complete the FamilySearch Account or LDS Account registration process? If you registered with an e-mail address, you must validate ownership of that e-mail before your account can be made active. Check your e-mail account for a verification e-mail titled, "LDS Account - Complete your registration," or you can request a new verification e-mail. Make sure to check your spam or junk mail folders. If you are not receiving this verification e-mail, you can contact our support team and request to bypass this process.


Why can't I access some sites or specific functionality within sites?
Some sites and some functionality of sites are reserved for LDS Church membership. If you are a member and feel you should have access to these sites and features please make sure you have added your membership information to your profile. Check the status of your membership information in your account by signing into your LDS Account and viewing your account "Status" in the top right corner of the page. If your membership information is shown as incomplete, follow the link to add it.
If your membership information is complete but you can't access a given site, you may not have the appropriate role or permissions assigned to you for that site (for example, Bishop is a role that allows access to some sites that members without this role cannot access) or your records may not be updated to reflect a change in ward or stake boundaries. If your LDS Account is active and you do not have access to a site that you believe you should, please check with your Ward Clerk to make sure your Church record is up to date with both your current church assignment/calling and your assigned ward and stake.
