Чья это форма?
Здравствуйте! На фото мой прадед Тындык Михаил Николаевич (1886-1963). В письме к своей сестре он упоминал о польско-украинской войне, которая началась позже даты снимка (1915г.), как, впрочем, и чешский город Оломоуц мало соотносится с этой войной. Не могли бы вы помочь определить род войск, и , возможно, звание

I suspect it's either Canadian or British World War I uniform but I don't know much about it. If I am not mistaken the cap badge specifies a unit so in theory it's possible to identify it.

I did some digging and it does look like Canadian uniform of 1913 pattern (7 buttons, stand-up collar etc). In addition he wears a winter trench cap with ear flaps that was introduced around 1915. It should give you some idea about the earliest time this picture could have been taken. The scan’s resolution is not high enough to identify the unit by the badge. There is a visible diagonal element on top of it. I compared it with some Canadian cap badges that I found on the Internet and it looks like a moose head or some other animal or a bird. Here are examples of similar looking badges:

VC! I am most impressed! I spend hours on military sites and find interesting things but not related to my search. I also notice your English is very good. Small things like this make me happy. It is 7:00 AM in Ontario Canada and I'm having a good day.

I have an Attestation Paper where he was sworn into the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Forces on March 15, 1916. The place was Fort Francis which is in the Rainy River district that is shown on the first badge. He died in Vancouver in 1970 at age 79. I met him in 1966, he was still writing to his friend in Zhichin.

Great! I noticed that the first badge closely matches your photo but since I am not familiar with Canadian army structure I wasn’t sure whether there were other units with similar looking insignia. The 141st CEF infantry battalion indeed was stationed at Fort Frances so looks like you got a perfect match. It was later absorbed by 18th reserve battalion:

As an additional proof (assuming I understood the logic correctly) the regimental number from his attestation paper (I found it) falls into the numbers range assigned to the above mentioned 141st battalion according to this table:

I checked several other numbers from this range and some papers even have “141st” stamped on top. His paper also has a stamp but it’s very hard to distinguish.
