Private (left) and corporal (right) of the Russian Imperial Army in infantry uniforms of the 1881 pattern, which were used until 1909-1910. Red shoulder straps and blue collars indicate the 2nd regiment of some infantry division. The 1st Brigade of the 36th Infantry Division was based in Orel at the beginning of the 20th century. This could be the 142nd Zvenigorodsky infantry regiment that was the 2nd regiment of this same division. To confirm this guess, we need to try to read the division number specified on the shoulder straps. This requires scans of shoulder straps with the 1200 dpi resolution. It may also help us to narrow the period when the picture was taken. In 1904 buttons were switched to the new ones with eagles on them.
