Документов того времени у нас нет - много-много лет пытались найти какие-то из них, но безрезультатно.
Он рассказал своим детям несколько историй из своей жизни до приезда в Австралию и рассказал им, что родился в Алматы и отправился в Одессу, чтобы присоединиться к кораблю - он убегал и не хотел, чтобы его нашли. Мы также задавались вопросом о возможности того, что его отец служил в армии.

His date of birth was listed in the family bible that he and his wife started and on his death certificate. We have no documents from this time - have been trying for many, many years to find some of these but to no avail.
He told his children some stories of his life before coming to Australia and he told them he was born in Almaty and travelled to Odessa to join a ship - he was running away and did not want to be found. We have also wondered about the possibility of his father being in the military.

My name is Carolyn Ward and I have been provided with this address by the Family Search Community Forum after I asked for help with finding an elusive relative or suggestions as to where to go from here.
I am trying to find the family of my great grandfather who was born in Alma Atty in what is modern day Kazakhstan but what was Russia on 2nd April 1853 when he was born. His name is John Ambrose Searant and he had an older brother Alexander, who was born in 1851, who married Martha. We know nothing of his parents or any other siblings and therefore, everything has stopped at him. At 14, John travelled to Odessa to become a seaman and, after 10 years at sea, he decided to make Australia his home. We believe that the family were of French origin so the spelling of the last name can be the french Serrant / Serant / or Серант in Kazakh. Searant is the Australian spelling. There has been a contributor to My Heritage who has been researching the Серант name in Kazakhstan and has put up 4 generations dating back from a death in 2016. However, much of their research has no dates. I have tried contacting this person on a number of occasions but have received no reply. I have also found some references to Serrant's in France with names common to our family - Ambrose, Alexandre, and, if the family on My Heritage is connected, there are also a number of Theodore's and Constantine's.
Can anyone offer any insights about where to go from here - or has anyone else been trying to find people of the same name? I will be very thankful if I can finally move ahead with this family. They have proved to be very elusive.
