maxmalk написал:[q] Collegiate registrar was a lowest rank in Russian imperial bureaucracy (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_of_Ranks ).
"Honorary citizens" was a small strata between nobles and burghers, it consists of childern of non-hereditary nobles, children of some clergymen and some others. Also it can be achieved through best places at ranks for some univercities and college students, through awarding of some imperial orders, or one can be elevated by city goverment's decision, e.t.c.[/q]
Thank you. In fact, in Zofia's birth record from 1913, Alexander is college secretary, presumably having been promoted based on the Wiki page you sent.
One more question, the dates in the birth records, e.g. Stanislaw's are in the Julian calendar?

This is fantastic. Today I found a document from a Polish census from the 1920's. I learned that both Wladyslaw and Stanislaw were born in Mariinsk, the former on 2/February/1909, the latter on 5/January/1911. This fits with the Stanislaw you found, maxmalk, and confirms that Stanislaw (grandfather) must have been the father of Eugeniusz, who was the father of Stanislaw born in 1911.
Sofia appears to be the daughter of the Alexander siadeblanc found. I think I can safely conclude that the brothers Alexander and Eugeniusz lived in Mariinsk from at least 1908 to sometime before 1916, when they were in Shumikha. At some point after (probably around the Revolution), they moved back west to settle in the area around Vilnius.
What is a Коллежск регистратор? It translates as a college registrar. Is that correct, someone who worked in the registration of students at a college (I presume high school)?
I do not think the Gronski's in Белосток are my family. Maybe they are, but not close relatives. As far as I know they were not peasants, but from dvoryanin class and were not involved in agriculture.
Thank you and I welcome anything else you may find.

Thank you for the information. I will see if I can find a Stanislav Gronski somewhere around Vilnius as that is where the family lived after Evgeny stopped working for the Russian railways. I presume that is where they might have lived before they moved to Siberia for his work.
I do not have Leopold's birth record. I know that information because he was my grandfather, not because I found it in any documents.
For my interest, what does "honorary citizen" mean? Is this a kind of nobility title (but not dvoryanin), or it has to do with actual Russian citizenship?
Thank you.

The geneteka website is excellent for looking for Polish records. Unfortunately, the years 1860-1867 have not yet been catalogued for Augustów. The only Jan Kuźmiński (proper spelling of the last name) is a man born in 1843, but that is 20 years off from your estimate. Did he immigrate to the US on his own or was he married? Often American Staten Island records show the closest relative the person provided. Do you have that? Most likely that would have been a sibling or a parent.

Hello,
I am trying to locate any information on my great-grandfather, Eugeniusz Groński. He was probably born between 1870 and 1883. He was married to Maria Drozdowska (parents Leopold Drozdowski and Albina Józefowicz). She was born 13 July1883 in Lahoysk (today's Belarus). They had 3 children: Wladyslaw, Stanislaw, and Leopold. Leopold was born in Shumikha (Kurgan Oblast) on 1 Feb 1916. The reason the family was in Russia (Siberia) is because Eugeniusz worked as a train driver there. I believe the family lived there for a few years before returning back to the area around Vilnius or Ashmyana or Minsk. He died in 1940 supposedly in Soviet captivity.
I am a bit stuck, because I cannot find any information on Eugeniusz's parents or where he was born or where they lived after returning from Russia. I was thinking that there are a few potential avenues to approach this: 1) Search for wedding certificate (what makes this difficult, however, is that I do not know the year or the place. Given that Wladyslaw was born in 1909 and Stanislaw in 1910, most likely the wedding was in 1908 or 1907, yet without knowing the place, this is a bit of a dead end). 2) Search for a record of his employment with the Russian railways. Is there a database of this? 3) Search for any record of his arrest in 1940. Again, is there a searchable database of this?
Thank you, /M
