Looking for father to my relatives in St Petersburg in 1868

Hi,

I have been trying to search for the father of my great-grandmother to know if he was Russian or some other nationality as St Petersburg was very cosmopolitan those times.

I am not able to get hold of Russian records (Answer from Russian State Historical Archives:

I wonder if anyone could help me with records or point me to a new direction? Last name must have been written differently to Russian records, I suppose.

Her name was Leonide (Leonilla) Sågström, born November 8th, 1868 in St Petersburg.

Her mother Wilhelmina Sågström was born in Porvoo, Finland June 29th, 1843 and moved to St Petersburg when she was only 15 years old. I suppose she worked as a maid there. Wilhemina married carpenter Theodore Graumann (born 1852 in St Petersburg) July 3th, 1881 in St Petersburg. They were announced in the Swedish St Catharina Church as Wilhelmina is Swedish speaking.
But Theodore most likely is not the father as Leonide is already a teeenager when they marry. Wilhelmina also kept her own surname so maybe the child was born outside of marriage.

His name, nationality and maybe occupation could be mentioned in birth/child records of Leonide. Or maybe mentioned somewhere in Wilhelmina´s records.
There is a family story that he was Russian army officer.

Wilhelmina also had another daughter Valentina Sågström, born February 9th, 1872 in St Petersburg. Valentina got married to Feodor Ivanoff and stayed in Russia, so her records might be found based on marriage? Leonide eventually moved to Wiaborg and married there.

Lutheran church records for the years 1868–1885 are available on FamilySearch.org.

The St. Petersburg Historical Archive does not hold vital records for those years; they only have records from 1892 onwards.

Ok. Yes, I have looked through Family Search and FInnish + Swedish church records. Nothing is found.

The reason I know about these daughters being born is because I found Finnish passport records for those times for their mother.




How about another daughter Valentina Sågström; could her records be found as Valentina got married to Feodor Ivanoff of Russian nationality. ANd stayed in Russia. Maybe she could be found somewhere from 1892 onwards?
