Looking for grandfathers grandfather Ivan Sofronov Žukovskij Иван Софронов Жуковский
My grandfathers grandmother married a Russian solder and had 4 children with him of which only one child survived: Pelagia born in 1883.
Ivan married a Finnish girl born in 1850 in Helsinki. She travelled first time to St Petersburg in 1870 or 1873. Marriage may have happened around here. Her name is Amanda Svahn (Сван, Lebedewski).
Anyway, I find from passport archives when she returns to Finland that she is now a widow, so Ivan Sofronov Zhukowski is now dead.
1. What can be said about Ivan’s origins by just looking at the name?
2. I suspect that he was naval and/or military man , in one of the papers it is noted that Pelagia has been “christened” in a naval church.
Help me get some clues so I can move forward
Thank you for this great forum
