Сообщения loreli59 (4)Тема: Searching for Stoenko Family History 23.05.2013, 3:01
I have not been able to find much information about the Stoenko family from the Ekaterinopol (listed on ship manifest as place of birth), Poltava, Poltavs'ka oblast, Ukraine areas.
My ancestors owned an inn (with a horse stable) and a wheat mill. The family lore is people would come to have their wheat ground and stay at the inn while the wheat was processed into grain. My grandfather said he worked in the stables and helped feed and take care of the horses. Other relatives were also part owners of the business but I do not have much information about who was involved. Then the progroms started. It must have been the early 1900s. My Grandfather told me the communists wanted the family business because it was so successful and his Father and Uncle refused to let them have it...so they shot and killed them both, right in the front yard of my grandfather's house..in front of my Grandfather (who was just a young teenager). My Grandfather's name was Noyic (Norman) Stoenko (Stone) My Great Grandfather's name was Wolf (Walter) Stoenko. I do not know what my grandfather's uncle's name was. Any information about the Stoenko family during the late 1800s and early 1900s would be helpful.
My understanding is Stoenko = Стоенко in Ukrainian.
Thanks, Lori Stone
