1 сентября 2005 3:23 I am searching my husband's russian roots. The family story is that his great grandfather, Nicholas G. Barsheff was born in Russia on December 19, 1878 to George and Anastasia. However, our family believes the last name was changed when Nicholas came to the US. He was a writer for the "underworld" in Russia and his articles posed a threat to his life. He also wrote poetry.
Nicholas escaped from Russia (leaving behind a wife and two sons) on a submarine to the French Riveria. He came to New York in 1911.
