17 ноября 2023 11:47 Hello I'm new to this site I'm an Alaskan who descend from Russian colonists that settled in Alaska, the surnames I have is Chetbetnoy Chebotnov Chebotnykh, Bushkovskii, Olgin, Arkhimandritov, Sorokin, Latashnikov, Lotashnikov These surnames were in my family tree that was from Geni, I do have Cyrillic of two surnames.such as Olgin (Ольгин) Chetenoy(Чебетной) While there is another variant of the surname which is Chebotnykh (Чеботных) These families are Aleut and Alutiiq/Supiaq who my Russian ancestor's intermix so I'm a Alaskan Native with Russian ancestry, most of my Russian ancestors settled in the Aleutians islands such as Korovin Island, Kodiak Island, during colonial days of Alaska before American purchase of Alaska, I don't understand Russian at all, but I could use translator such as DeepL to communicate. Anyways I think I focus on one Russian-Aleut family for now which is Chebetnoy, the first recorded Chebetnoy who came to Alaska is Mikhail Chebetnoy, he likely born in 1790 in Tobolsk, around there, he settled in Korovin Island in my estimation around 1810 or 1820s, his occupation was Tradesman, he married an Aleut woman, There's a book called "Russian Colonization of Alaska" by Andrei Val’terovich Grinëv mention about Mikhail Chetbetnoy (I forgot to mention he's my 6th great grandfather) around few pages in the 300s mentioned his name, the spelling started to changing from Chebetnoi to Chebotnov, then Chebotnykh, so I'm not sure what's up with that I'm assuming variant spelling of Chebetnoy, the sources from the book mentioned National Archives where the author got the information, There is article that mention the same like book, the article listed Mikhail as "Mikhailo Chebotnykh" however there was another pdf document called "Where Did all the Aleut men go?" of Mikhail's chebetnoy's emigration of Alaska, however his name is different which spelled as "Vasili Mikhailovich Chebetnoi" who settled to Korovin Island in 1810. A Russian friend of mine recommended me a Russian geneaolgy group called Familio where I joined their group where they had Tyuman Oblast region chat, so I asked about Mikhail Chebetnoy there, apparently I learned that that there were Burghers in Tobolsk who shared the surname with my sixth great grandfather, but however their Mikhail born 1791 and died during 1791, Thanks to the group chat of Familio I found out the meaning of Chebetnoy is "Shoemaker" in Russian, and I have been told that Russians back then get surnames based on the profession, but however there was heated arguments on there if Surnames existed in 18th Century Russia or not, so it gets confusing for me, Oh yeah on FamilySearch on his profile someone put his biography that he's saint innocent which is false of course, but another claim he's related to Duke of Russia, on the second claim I can't verify for now, can you help me find information regarding Mikhail Chebetnoy please i'm trying find out his parents, and grandparents etc, This is first time doing a thread, please respond to me if you found any related Information. 22 ноября 2023 9:38 Whoever replied to the post, I didn't get time to replay on time, I apologize, I think I had fatigue during this winter, so I had to rest when I first saw your comment. So, I vaguely remember your comment (Despite you deleted it), so, Mikhailo is like older variant spelling for Mikhail? so, I'm assuming most Mikhails during Russian Empire times were called Mikhailo during the 18th century, am I correct since it's obsolete. Alright as for your question about Vasili Mikhailovich Chebetnoi, could be, but I doubt it, the Information seems conflicting, most sources I came across is that Mikahil arrived in Alaska as a colonial citizen, Maybe he did had a son name vasili, I could check on Geni to see how many children he had, according to Geni. I descend from his Son named Gregorie Chebetnoy who's a Croele, the book mentioned his other son Nikolai, but I don't see Nikolai on Geni, his other children are Geraism,Vasily(Vasili) Paraskeva, and Mikhail, their all croeles https://www.geni.com/people/Mi...2641392065Here's Geni profile. Anyways I found another article mentioned Mikhail Chebetnoi, it sounds like I may have distant cousin!!! https://alutiiqmuseum.org/joann | | Лайк (1) |
