Visherskaja (��) comes as an adjective, I think, from Vishera (��). Vishera is a right tributary of the Volkhov (��) river (Novgorod and Leningrad areas). Two rivers, Malaya (Small) and Bolshaya (Big) Vishera form the Vishera river after junction.

So I think you have start from Selishe near Malaya Vishera.

You are right - Selichshi village is about 30 km from Malaja Vishera. The address is: the village of Selichshi, Malovishersky district of the Novgorodian Oblast. In Russia the name of the district is usually indicated as very often you can find villages of the same name but situated in different regions of the country.

My Russian grandmother was born, according to a Finnish document, in 1923 in the village of Selishi, in the district of Visherskaja. Name of an oblast is not given, and I can't find with certainity where the village was located. Notice that these are Finnish transliteration of old and different to modern Finnish transliteration.

Has anyone come across a village named Selishi or something similar. I think it could be one of the two Selichshe (��) located near Malaya Vishera in Novgorod Oblast. However, I don't understand why the district is called "of Visherskaya" in the document, like Visherskaya was the name of the district town. Anyway, Malaya Vishera is not far away from Tosno (Leningrad Oblast) where my grandmother worked, and these towns were connected by a straight railway line.

Any tips as to where I should start searching?
