You are quite right, Anton, Botkins were scattered aborad in 1917. Thank you for your comment. However, the period I am seeking information on is much earlier. My fourth great grandfather was born in Northern Ireland or Scotland in 1738, so it was prior to then that Botkins first left Russia. I hope someone will be able to verify or confer this for me.

It was not Razin's but it was Lenin's army, and this took place in 1917

I am looking for any information that pertains to the Botkin family in
Russia, from the present to backwards in time as far as anyone has
knowledge.

My grandfather told me a story when I was 12 years of age (I am now 64) of
five brothers named Botkin who fled Russia to escape an army of peasants
who were murdering the aristocracy and land owners. This was possibly
Stenka Razin's army. Anyway, one brother settled in Belgium, two returned
to Russia, and the other two, one being my ancestor, continued on to
Scotland and Ireland.

I am very much interested in finding where the tree branches forked off
from one another so that I can make the connection from the Botkin family
in America to the Botkin family in Russia. Hopefully, someone in Russia
will have heard a similar story and be able to help me fill the blanks.
