Your father immigrated to Canada in 1916?
I'd guess is not easy to emigrate from a land during a war at age 26.
To search in an archive for the rather common name like Pavel Lavrentiev one should know the birth place, I suppose.
Aren't there immigration documents with more data?
If not, then I maybe would recommend a DNA test in the vague hope, some relatives will once test too.

My father immigrated to Canada about age 26 along with his cousin Philip Kuznetzoff.
Lived a shirt distance from Leniengrad.. they had a farm
