Good afternoon from Canada!

I am seeking information on my grandfather and his family. His name was Joseph Komich. He was born in 1885 in Buchatin, Belarus. His father's name was Ignatz.

My grandfather moved to Canada in the early 1900's, and became a decorated Canadian soldier in WWI. I do know that he appeared to be well educated, was a translator (he could read and write something like sixteen different languages). I also know he was in the Russian Military (Hussars?) and/or worked for the Russian Government. Unfortunately, other than those small pieces,I have NO information on him (when I first started searching for information, all I had was his name). He didn't share anything with my mother, or if he did, she wouldn't tell me about it (she's since passed away).

I don't know if "Komich" is Anglicized (I'm guessing he may done that when he moved to Canada), so that might not be the correct spelling of the name.

Any assistance or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Kind regards,
Christine
