I appreciate the help so far (reading along on the other thread).
I'll try to answer some questions: The writing is on the back of a photo of a solider in uniform.
I believe it was taken in Warsaw because I know the solider was stationed there and the top of the postcard is in Polish. Since Warsaw fell early in the war, it is likely from 1914.
It was later glued to another surface which is where much of the damage comes from.
The photo was restored about a decade ago. I'm unsure if the writing on the back was also restored with it.

I have a letter in handwritten Russian from the First World War. It's pretty badly damaged (many words are missing) and the penmanship isn't great.
I asked a local Russian speaker to translate it and she managed to decipher a few words but not enough to get an understanding of what the letter was about.
Anyone here want to take a shot at it? Those of you used to working with older documents may have more luck.

Я видел это приводится в качестве источника в Интернете, но никогда не сам список.

Нет имя не указано и не появляются на других листах (1914 полковник, 1913 подполковника, 1909 и 1910 старших офицеров).
Кто-нибудь знает больше об этой личности?

Были студенты местного или они приходят со всех уголков? Например бы Санкт-Петербург Школьники все будет из Санкт-Петербурга? Или кто-то из Казани или Минске поехать в Санкт-Петербурге?

I agree this is a difficult request. I wasn't holding out much hope that you guys held any solutions but I'd figured I would ask regardless. In addition to knowing the language, you work on this topic more than I do.
A few questions...
Is it possible that he would have not used his father's name in his patronymic? Could he have used a baptismal name or middle name instead? Was that common?
Would officers ever get time off? Would they get a month or two to go back home to their families or be at the front the whole time?
If I wanted to do a search in the future and do find some likely names, how would I go about doing that?

Это все офицеры в РИА с первого имени Михаила и patroynomic Василия. Я составил его из 1909 генералов Список.
Я все еще работаю, чтобы добавить даты рождения, и это также частично на английском языке, но это может быть полезно.

Добрый день.
Я из Канады поэтому, пожалуйста, простите за плохой русский язык.
Мне сказали, что мой родственник был полковник в РИА в 1914-1917 войны.
Большая проблема в том, что я не знаю его фамилию. Я, однако, знаю, другие детали, которые могут помочь: Он был из Минской губернии и округа, его звали Майкл, имя его отца был Василий, самое раннее он мог родиться является 1872 (хотя, скорее всего 1874-1890), он не был женат, он отправился в офицеры школы, и он не вернулся домой после вступления в войну.
Я сделал некоторые поиск самостоятельно и имеют списки доступных офицеров онлайн (1909 и 1910 всех офицеров, 1907/1909/1913/1914/1916 полковника, 1913 подполковником), но не имел никакой удачи.
Мне интересно, если бы вы могли дать любой совет или помощь в любом случае в поиске этого человека?

Как много или мало свойство будет кто-то должны владеть, чтобы быть включены в список? Бы 50 га будет достаточно?
Разве только Минск округа или всей провинции?

It does not appear that I will be successful in my search with what I currently have.
I appreciate all the help and advice given on these forums. GrayRam in particular was very helpful.
In the meantime, I am going to continue working with documents that I have and looking for new ones on the internet and maybe I'll get lucky. If I am able to put some puzzle pieces together, I may yet be back to bother you all with more inquiries.

My mistake.
I knew it was close to the border but thought it was still in Minsk Province. Guess I was wrong. Thanks for the correction.
I'd still be interested in the book, simply because I'm unsure if that is indeed the family I'm looking for and because it is bound to come in handy with other searches. Hence, my inclusion of Vilna Province as well in the initial post.

 The blind search is like a puzzle, trying to put all the pieces together. Still... a search with the all information is probably easier. At least I've picked up some Russian in the process.
I'd look into buying the book. Does he mail to Canada or just local or the United States? It certainly seems to be a good resource.

If military records are too problematic, then don't worry about it.
He wouldn't be in the White Army. He was killed sometime between 1914-1916.
Are you aware of any discharge lists? People who were released from the army before the war was done?

I doubt that they would be in the Red Terror. To be honest, as I said above, I don't much about that family line. I don't know her mother's first name or where she was from. It could fall in the Soviet Union, but like my great-grandmother, it could also be in the Second Polish Republic (see below). In terms of time frame, my great-grandmother was born in 1897 or 1898, as the fourth and last child. Her mother, then, must have been at least in her late 30's or 40's, meaning probably the 1840's or 1850's. I don't know her mother had brothers either. Maybe she was an only daughter?
In terms of location, I wrote the counties in the first post, but I'll clarify further: My great-grandmother specifically said that she could hear the guns in the First World War but that the Germans never reached them. I'm about 99% certain that is accurate. That means her family is from somewhere between the front lines in the First World War (see here) and the Second Polish Republic's eastern frontier (see here). I also figure, based on stories, that it is north of Niasvizh and east of Lida, which really doesn't a leave large area. But still a difficult search nonetheless.
I do not know the surname of the Colonel. It would be my great-grandmother's brother, so theoretically it would be the same as her maiden name. I've gone through the lists trying to find a match with his supposed first name (Michael) and patronymic (Vasilievich), along with date of birth (she was born in 1897, so her brother couldn't much older than late 1870's or 1880's), and someone who was killed in action. Nothing seemed to match perfectly. There were a few that sort of worked but didn't match up when I compared them to the 1929 Directory. It has led to me question whether she exaggerated his rank. But thank you for the link. It is something that I've looked for in the past and may have come across it but didn't save it. May be useful down the line.
I do not know how easy it is to look for cards. If it is easy for you, I can go back and compile a list of possible names. I don't want to burden you though.
