.My parents met in a Dp camp during WW 2 and married. The details from naturalisation papers in Australia I have managed to get released are:

Evdokia Dumiak and Iwan Slobodniuk married in Lichtenberg Germany on May 8 1947. I am trying to find where I might find these marriage records ? I am seeking the name of his parents

My father died when I was 4 ( 1959) and there are anomalies with some of his records. I currently have 2 mothers names from certificates and several different places of birth for my father. Thank You

After much looking, finally found information about my fathers's mother. Her surname Guszejawa, Akeliena , born Poland 1894. Looking for where I might find further details. According to naturalisation papers of my father she was married to Prokop Slobodniuk born Poland 1890

While researching my own family history I quickly have come to the realisation that before you can find out anything you have to determine what is fact and what is fiction. My mother often talked of her life and the hardships of being displaced and the way in which survival changed many traditional views regarding the Germans and the Russians. What I now know, unfortunately after her death, that to hide the truth and hurt some of what she said was fiction. To find the truth is almost impossible. Her family has been located and spoken with on a social level. Enough evidence has been presented that these family members were in contact with my mother. My father's family is totally different. They do not exist. The details I have, which I once believed to be true, I now question. I understand that survival meant many deceptions were needed. What I can not understand is why after so many years people are unwilling to speak. Every time I seem to come closer to the information people refuse to speak or plead ignorance. The generation of Ukrainians alive today need to realise they are not responsible for what their ancestors needed to do to survive. The bureaucracy needs to realise that if they are culpable they need to make some form of reparation, symbolic or otherwise, and allow those of us who are seeking the truth about ourselves to find our sense of belonging. I read current critics challenge those of us who are relocated Ukrainians to embrace our culture,. May I say that it is not that we are not willing to embrace our culture it is that we are not allowed to by those who know the truth. We do not want a bastardised version of our heritage from a Russian perspective, We want to know the truth. We have a right to know it.We demand to know it. How about we all open up and let us decide whether we can live with it.

I do not sometimes understand what you say. I am sorry if I offend you.I am not sure of my fathers origins and I am not even sure how to spell my name. I am very thankful for the help you have given

Khmelnik : This is where I search now. Many names like Slobodyanyuk and Slobodniak appear on Classmates.
While my father may have been born there he may have been in transit.
I can not find any information about Demyd
My grandfather Prokif was a blacksmith. This seems to be in keeping with the region.

No I do not know where she is from. I submit application to get file today. Might take 90 days. Curly is an unusual translation. In Australia we call people Curly when we do not know their name. . Also, if they have curly hair

I know it is not the same. What I say is I look for similar. In Australia, many names Anglicised ( English change ) . Sounds take on different spellings. This verified when do search in google maps. Name you type in is always different from one that comes up. I say maybe my uncle, who not speak so well English, Anglicised names and then spelling is different. I look for similarity in regions. . Another example is my name is spelling in Australia Slobodniuk. I see other spellings. Slobodenyuk, Slobodenjuk, Slobodnyak etc. Who knows. I can only try. I now turn to my grandmother Kaczurawy has become Kacuray to Kucara. I find in Australian records Stephania, She has children Eugenia ( my brother Eugene) Maria ( My sister Maria) , Roman ( my brother Raymond and Helenia ( my sister Helen ) Too much coincidence. ??? But Stephania has no husband listed. I keep looking.

I follow a link from this coment in Ukrainian.com

It is very good that you have correct names – they all are understandable and readable for native speakers ( hope you have them in original as well ) . But information about possible location is very poor. Chmelnycka ( = Хмельницька область ) is the name of administrative unit . It is like a province in Australia . You need more specific information ( town , region , village , etc) . I think you have to read all papers you have very carefully and for sure you’ll find something useful.
It is wonderful region of Ukraine , so called Podillia .

I research and read about Podillia. I look at spelling of names and how they may change. I compare with fathers death certificate. Information given by mu Uncle who was young in Ukraine. He too is now dead. Went to visit Ukraine and died of heart attack in Germany on way home.Maybe his spelling is not that good. I am making educated guess based on much research
