My name is Lisa Koelink-Burke, and I am researching the surname BERK.

My family came from Lithuania, I don't know if your research covers that
country, but I am writing anyway, incase it does.

My grandfather Josif  Berk was born in Vilnius October 3rd 1872.  I have
his
birth certificate, gained by my cousin last year.  His father's name was
Aizik and mother's was Feiga.  It doesn't give a maiden name for feiga.
They were Jewish.

Apart from this information, we believe that Josif (who emigrated to
England
in the late 19th century and used the name Joseph Nathan Burke), had
brothers and a sister.  Abraham Berk  who emigrated to America in 1905,
and
Aaron, Zadok, and sister Beila, whom we know nothing about.

We don't know what happened to any of these people, apart from my
grandfather and Abraham.

Joseph married Bertha Willson in London in 1898, and had children, Louis
(my
father), Harris, Irene and Winifred.  He died there in 1930.

This message is a shot in the dark, I know, but any information would be
so
helpful, as we really are in need of help with our father's family.  We
only
found out they were Jewish a few years ago!!  Although we all had our
suspicions, and family stories all leaned in that direction!

Thanks for any help
